International Admissions Process

Northwest Tech gladly welcomes students of all nationalities interested in pursing a technical education. Below we have provided a step-by-step process for what you need in order to gain admission to Northwest Tech.

How to Apply for Admission

  1. Complete the Application for Admission
  2. Pay a $25 application fee
  3. Provide academic transcripts and diploma
    • Transcripts that are not in English must be translated by an independent organization. We recommend students have their academic transcripts and diploma translated by World Education Services (WES).
    • If you send a transcript prior to graduating for admission purposes, you will need to submit another final translated transcript and diploma upon your graduation.
  4. Proof of English Proficiency
    • If you are from an English speaking country, you do not need to provide proof of English Proficiency. Click here to view a list of English speaking countries.
    • Students whose country’s official language is not English must document their English proficiency in one of the following ways:
      • TOEFL: iBT (internet-based test): minimum score of 61
      • TOEFL: CBT (computer-based test): 173
      • IELTS: 5.0
    • The above scores must be within the past 18 months at the time of application.
    • Students scoring below these scores may be provisionally admitted, but will be required to take intensive English coursework on campus prior to beginning their first semester.
  5. Proof of financial support
    • Submit a certified bank statement dated within the last 6 months of application showing $15,000 US Dollars. The bank statement must be in English. Note: The amount listed is the estimated one-year cost of tuition, books, tools and living expenses.
  6. Affidavit of Sponsorship
    • Students must submit a signed copy of the affidavit of sponsorship.
  7. Copy of Passport
    • In order to help our staff issue accurate visa documentation, we require a copy of your passport. This will be used to verify personal information and maintain accuracy.

Next Steps

Once you have been admitted to the college, we will send you a letter of acceptance and an official I-20 document you will need for your embassy visit. You will then need to complete the following steps:

  1. SEVIS Fee
    • The U.S. Government requires the payment of a non-refundable $200 SEVIS fee for all international students before issuing a visa.
    • You can complete the I-901 form and submit payment online at using a credit card.
  2. Visa Interview
    • You will need to schedule a visa appointment at your local US Consulate or US Embassy after paying the SEVIS fee. The receipt form (Form I-797) is used to schedule the interview. Students should bring the following to the interview:
      • Signed I-20 from Northwest Kansas Technical College
      • Passport
      • Acceptance letter from Northwest Kansas Technical College
      • Form I-797 SEVIS fee receipt
      • Completed visa application
      • Financial support documents (affidavit and bank statements mentioned above)
